About Nisarg Setu

About us

We provide the ecological surveys and assessments that let development and biodiversity conservation go together.

Our name

Nisarg (nature) + Setu (bridge).

The name describes what we do: we connect the needs of people and projects with the needs of nature.

We help projects plan around the species and habitats on their sites, so that development can go ahead while biodiversity is looked after for the long term.

Our mission

To provide high-quality ecological and environmental services worldwide that help conserve biodiversity and protect important habitats, and to help development and conservation work together for future generations.

Our team

Our team carries out biodiversity assessments using molecular analysis, wildlife tracking, acoustic studies and GIS mapping. We focus on accurate data and on recommendations that clients can put into practice.

“Our aim is for development and biodiversity conservation to go hand in hand.”
Our people

Our expertise

Our methods

We use standard field survey methods together with newer techniques that detect more species and produce more reliable data.

Molecular analysis

DNA-based identification for rapid, multi-species biodiversity detection across habitats.

Acoustic studies

Bioacoustic monitoring for bat and bird surveys, which picks up species that are hard to see.

Wildlife tracking

Telemetry and tracking to show how animals use and move through an area.

GIS mapping

Habitat classification and land-use change analysis to set an accurate baseline.

Laboratory analysis

Analysis of biological samples, including plankton collection, processing, species identification and counting.

What guides us

Our values

Sound science

Reliable methods, open data and honest findings that hold up when checked.

Nature first

We recommend measures that actually conserve and improve biodiversity on the ground.

Practical advice

Plain reporting and recommendations that fit the project's timeline and budget.

Environmental education & awareness

Nature walks and biodiversity awareness

Nisarg Setu runs its own programmes and works with partner organisations on nature walks and biodiversity awareness sessions for communities, schools, colleges and companies.

Participants learn to notice and identify the wildlife and plants around them, and why protecting local habitats matters. Would you like to join a walk, or host a programme for your group?
